Felipe and Carlos Arcila, the founders of Cofinet, are fourth generation coffee producers from Quindio, Colombia. They purchased Jardines Del Eden in 2015 to focus on growing exotic varieties of coffees, and started Cofinet to produce, source and export the highest quality of Colombian coffees to the world.

The coffees from Jardines Del Eden are truly special to us. In October 2019, our team visited Jardines Del Eden for the first time, where Felipe proudly showed us seedlings of new experimental varietals that will produce ripe cherries in about three years. We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit exactly three years later in October 2022, where we tasted the fruits of his labour and selected a few outstanding new varietals to share with our guests back home.

This Yellow Sudan Rume varietal was one of them. The Sudan Rume variety originated in southern Sudan near the Ethiopian border and was discovered in the 1940s in the Boma plateau's inner forest. Despite its low yield, this variety has a strong resistance to berry disease and leaf rust. The Sudan Rume is characterized by its tall stature and large, elongated cherries, as well as its wide, dark green leaves.
Cofinet’s Yellow Sudan Rume is a rare variety, and it has been performing really well at Jardines del Eden, where it is grown at an average altitude of 1800 m.a.s.l.

We roasted this coffee as a special launch of our sister bakery Dough’s seasonal 2nd hopper espresso offering. As an espresso, it exhibits a syrupy body and a sweetness of dark red and purple fruits. With milk, it has a delicious creamy mouthfeel and highlights notes of sweet raisin.
